Phyllis White

1932 - 2016

September 20, 1932 - June 4, 2016 White, Phyllis Joyce (Gray), age 83, of Alabaster, AL, formerly of Middletown, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 4, 2016. She was born September 20, 1932 the youngest of 12 children of Clifford and Bessie Gray. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 50 years, Ottie White; son, Gregory White, Alabaster, AL; daughter, Becky (Tony) Amburgey of Carlisle, OH; brother, David (JoAnn) Gray of Middletown, OH; special grandchildren, Cameron, Hayden and Victoria White; four additional grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lugina Gail Zinch; parents, Clifford and Bessie Gray; sisters, Ruth Brelsford, Eva Jean Miller, Anna Mae Bowlin; brothers, Ralph Gray, Harold Gray, Richard Gray, Donald Gray, Charles Gray, Robert Gray and Raymond Gray. She graduated from Middletown High School and was employed by Marsh Supermarket in Middletown and Franklin, Ohio and Hallmark Cards in Alabaster, AL. She spent many hours volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Shelby County Hospital in Alabaster. Her kindness and compassion was always part of her. Always smiling and friendly, she will be missed by family and the many friends who knew her. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who always gave to them before herself. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alabaster, AL. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics and playing cards with family and friends. The family thanks Stacey Melgren for her compassion and assistance during the last several months. The family also thanks Gentiva Hospice for their tender loving care and support during her time of need. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Gentiva Foundation, 2000 B, Southbridge Parkway, Suite 150, Birmingham, AL 35209. Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Baker-Stevens-Parramore Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Vernon Risner officiating. Entombment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.
