Gibbs Hurd Obituary

Gibbs "Red" Hurd, age 91, of Flowery Branch, Ga., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Philip D. Hurd and Donald G. Hurd. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Hurd Massey, Flowery Branch, Ga.; son-in-law, Michael Massey, Flowery Branch, Ga.; sister, Barbara Mickle; brother, Willis Hurd, Conyers, Ga.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Hurd was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Atlanta, Ga. He graduated from Tech High School in Atlanta and was a World War II army veteran. He was a retired chef from Pinnacle Club of Augusta, Ga., and he also worked for Piedmont Driving Club, Athens Country Club and Mammy's Shanty restaurant in Atlanta. He was a member of North Avenue Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northeast Georgia Hospice, 743 Spring St., Gainesville, GA 30501, in memory of Gibbs "Red" Hurd.
