Irwin Anthony Gandy

1931 - 2023

Irwin Anthony Gandy of Flowery Branch, GA, age 92, passed away on December 1, 2023. Born in Cairo, GA, he was the son of the late Early and Lily Ponder Gandy. He graduated from Cairo High School, played football with the Cairo Syrupmakers and attended ABAC College for two years until he was called into service during the Korean War. He chose the USAF, where he served 20 years. After retirement from the military, he had an appliance repair business. His most pressing desire was to travel, and after retirement, did so for ten years, visiting every mainland state, Alaska three times, every province of Canada and 31 days in Mexico, traveling from one side of the country to the other. At age 70, he bought a sailboat and learned to sail which was his favorite thing to do until old age stopped him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Emily Zeigler Gandy, mother of his three daughters. He is survived by his daughters, Gale Gandy Lee, of Cairo, GA, Donna Kay Laycock and husband Lynn of Dacula, GA, and Carol Fay Fleitz and husband Robert of McDonough, GA; wife, Marion U. Gandy of Flowery Branch, GA; stepdaughter, Tracy B. Troutman and husband Henry of Gainesville, GA; stepson, Robert Battle and wife Cindy of Greenwood, IN; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Gandy was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gainesville, GA. Moores Funeral Home & Crematory has charge of arrangements.
