Lewis Eugene “Gene” Blackburn Jr. Obituary
Mr. Blackburn was born on Dec. 14, 1954, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to the late Lewis Eugene Blackburn Sr. and DeLoris Cherry Blackburn. He was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church and loved playing with his grandsons.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Carol Blackburn of Gainesville; daughter, Karen Blackburn and her fiancé, Brad Shumake of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Blackburn of Gainesville; and grandsons, Elijah Blackburn and Colton Blackburn, both of Gainesville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Ga. Interment will follow in B.C. Grant Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Needs Ministry, Blackshear Place Baptist Church, 3428 Atlanta Highway, Flowery Branch, GA 30542.

Carol, I'm thinking of you and wanted to express my love to you, Kevin and Karen. I know the grief will be overwhelming at times and for this reason there are those of your friends, including me, who are lifting you and your family to God for comfort. When my only son, Dale, died on Mar. 29, 2011, I was in total shock and I had lost his father to a drunk driver 3 months after my son was born- so I understand how death of a loved one affected me personally, but no one really comprehends how you, Kevin or Karen will feel and react to this event . I appeal to God to give you folks a clear conception of His magnificent presence.
