Mark Marlowe Obituary

Mark Vincent Marlowe, Jr.
September 13, 1941 -
January 12, 2026
Mark Vincent Marlowe, Jr., age 84 years young, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026.
He was born on September 13, 1941, in Lexington, Kentucky to Mark V. and Louise Marlowe. Mark was known for his easy-going nature, friendly demeanor, love of Jaguars (the cars), flying, chocolate cake, plaid shirts WITH pockets, and his devotion to his wife of more than fifty years, Nancy Williams Marlowe who he met on the first day of Math class at the University of Kentucky. After graduating from UK, Mark and Nancy were married, and Mark (and Nancy as his support) joined the United States Air Force where they made numerous lifelong friends. He served his country for four years flying F4 Phantoms, still even today the fastest production fighter ever operated by Western nations as Mark liked to remember. Upon leaving the military, he continued his love of flying, pursuing a career in commercial aviation starting with Eastern Airlines, followed by an adventure with Air Holland living in Alphen on the Rhine, and finishing as a Captain with United Airlines. He will be fondly remembered and missed by many people in his life.
Mark is survived by his sisters Charmaine Louise Marlowe, Neisha Marlowe Wolfe (Rod); sons Mark Winfield Marlowe (Laura), Cord Mitchel Marlowe (Kelly); grandchildren Brett Gerald Marlowe and Cecilia Nancy Marlowe; and a niece and two nephews.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 2 pm, at the Harbour Point Club House in Gainesville.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Little & Davenport Funeral Home of Gainesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Mark's honor.

I am truly saddened to hear of Mark's passing, he was a truly outstanding man in every respect.

We became close friends in our elementary school days in Kentucky, a close friendship that continued for a lifetime - we crossed paths during our military service in Germany in the 60's, Mary and I visited often with Mark and Nancy when both our families lived in Atlanta suburbs in the 70's and 80's, and we all got together several times in retirement. And we sure enjoyed those get togethers, always swapping Kentucky stories and chewing over the state of world affairs!

Mark was a man you could always trust, a great American and a man of honor.

May he rest in eternal peace.

My deepest condolences to his wonderful family.

Mark was a friend, neighbor and fellow pilot. He was a real gentleman and I loved his stories about the F4.

Mark was a good friend while at Eastern Air and after, always a positive outlook and definitely full of information to share. Will surely be missed!

Flew with Mark at both EAL and UAL A true professional. A gentleman. And a kind and gentle soul...with a great sense of humor :
As a joke, when he retired from UAL,I went to the UAL kitchens in ATL and got a First Class service tray with ALL the attachments,i.e. knives, forks, plates, shakers, etc and glued them to the tray...hoping he could display them. And I told him it was a reminder of how much he would miss everything. To his credit he gave me a hardy laugh ...but...did say he'd never miss anything but his friends.
I was lucky to be one of them.
