Raphael D. Barnett Obituary

Raphael D. Barnett peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 9, 2013, surrounded by his family. Raphael was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Jackson County. Raphael was a native of Commerce and a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa. Upon his return home, he became a successful joint business owner and sole owner of several local grocery stores. Upon retiring from the grocery store business, he endeavored into the banking business for a number of years.

Raphael was the son of William Young Barnett and Elbertice Hix Barnett of Commerce. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Sailors Barnett; his sister, Louise Barnett Trotter; and his brother, William Barnett. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christina Barnett Crook and Mercer Crook; his sister, Donie Barnett Driver; his brother, Beeman Barnett; his two grandsons, Michael Crook and wife Candice and Rory Crook and wife Anna; and three great-grandchildren, Lorelai Crook, Aubrey Crook and Riley Crook, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 12, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce, Ga. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013, 2 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in Commerce, Ga.

Raphael Was a fine Man and Friend, I started to Work at Friendly Foods , Actually My First Job in 1962, I was about 16-17 yrs old.. A great Guy for sure..My pleasure to have Known Him.
