James Edward Hodges

1926 - 2018

James Edward Hodges, 92, of Roanoke, Va., passed away at his home on Sunday, July 1, 2018. 
He was born in Patrick County on June 17, 1926, to the late Edward Foster Hodges and Mary Lee Jessup Hodges. 
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Puckett Hodges; his second wife, Virginia Harris Hodges; and his son, James Edward Hodges Jr. 
Hodges served in the Army during World War II. 
He received a master's degree in education from The University of Virginia.  During his 42 year career in education, he served as a teacher and principal (Patrick County), Director of Instruction (Carroll County) and Superintendent of Schools (Grayson County).
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Kotulka and husband, Eugene of Covington, Va.; one step-daughter, Ruth Zein of Chevy Chase, Md.; daughter-in-law, Nan Bandura of Ashland, Va.; six grandchildren, Christopher Hodges, Caitlin Hodges, Jeisson Kotulka, Maria Kotulka, Julieth Kotulka and Santiago Kotulka; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services for Hodges was held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with the Rev. Robert L. Haley officiating.  Burial immediately followed in Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family received friends on Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 pm until 8 pm.
