Joseph Pierce Webb

1925 - 2015

In memory of Joseph Pierce Webb who passed away of a brain tumor, Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, in the comfort of his home. He was 89 years old.
Webb was born and raised in the Freemont section of Carroll County on Dec. 7, 1925.
Joe graduated in 1943 from Hillsville High School and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S Navy 1945-1947.
After leaving the service Webb came back to the Freemont community, where he worked and became the proprietor of his father's store, Clinton Webb & Company general store and Texaco station until it closed in 1982.
In his spare time, Joe took pleasure in golfing and occasionally worked at Olde Mill Golf Course.
For many years Joe served as groundskeeper of the John P. Webb Cemetery, the family's memorial park.
He also enjoyed farming, yard work, gardening, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Joe always gave family and close friends unique nicknames.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, married Feb. 14, 1954, Lois Jean Worrell Webb (Frances); son and daugher-in-law, Curtis Dale (Fredrick) and Judy S. (Judy fly) Webb of Hillsville; grandchildren, Clinton Ryan Webb (Reno) and Christy Renee Webb (Sissero) of Hillsville; sister, Helen Webb MGrady; nephew and spouse, Joseph H. and Anne McGrady of Hillsville; and many cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Grace Webb; and brother, Clinton Webb Jr.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at 6 p.m. at the Fairview Presbyterian Church in Hillsville with the Rev. Ben Behrendt officiating.
