Sue Morton Obituary
She was born Aug. 15, 1921, to Hilary Reeves Sr. and Gladys Boyer Reeves.
She was born and raised in Independence, Va.
In her younger years, she loved to cook and host Sunday dinners. Her specialties were gravy and biscuits, yeast rolls, sausage stuffing, green beans, apple cake and all kinds of cobbler.
She also enjoyed teaching the adult ladies Sunday School class and VBS at the First Baptist in Independence for many years and she and my grandfather were life long members there.
She was an avid news fan and loved reading newspapers and watching the news on TV. She also never met a crossword puzzle she didn't like. She taught me to read at the age of four using newspapers, magazines and catalogs. She was very smart and independent lady and enjoyed spending time in her own home as long as she could.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Ellis Morton; her brother, Hilary Reeves Jr.; and her daughter, Evelyn Carol Morton.
Survivors include ger granddaughter, Elizabeth Sue Gray Paulson.
I would like to thank the Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad for their kindness and service in the past and all the caregivers at Grayson Nursing and Rehab for taking such good care of her in the last few months.
In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Independence First Baptist Church.
A service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence, Va. The Rev. Mike Montgomery will officiate. Afterwards, a private burial will take place in the Boyer Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Morton was such a dear lady. When she was still living at home, Independence First United Methodist Church's Lamb's Table delivered meals to her every Tuesday night. She was so kind and loving. She will be missed.
