GALION - Beverly Jean Swalley Leavy passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, surrounded by her family. Her departure leaves a permanent void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Beverly was born August 5, 1929, in Galion, Ohio to Minnie Mae (Foust) and Earl Miller Logan. Her sense of humor brought laughter to all those around her. She loved planting her flowers, mowing the yard, and reading books that swept her away on another adventure. She was the shining light in our family and will always remain in our hearts.
She is preceded in death by her husband Brian J. Leavy, sister Joyce Ann Gehrisch of Galion, and her brother Richard Logan of Galion. She enjoyed her five children through each phase of their lives, and they survive her- David (Jenny) Swalley of Caledonia, Ohio, Cinda Swalley of The Woodland, Texas, Tim Swalley of Galion, Ohio, Mitzi (Bud) Wheeler of Breckenridge, Colorado, and Greg Swalley of Martel, Ohio, as well as six grandchildren: Mica, Irl, Marie, Frank, Ali, and Danny, and eight great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Buddy, Mack, Felix, Oscar, Anna, Cara, and Lyric.
Beverly was very active during her high school years, playing the clarinet in the marching band. As Vice President of her junior class, she was also the editor of the school newspaper called "The Lantern". Lifelong friendships were formed with a group of ladies known as "The Ten Teens". She was also a member of the Girls Athletic Club, playing on the volleyball and basketball teams. At the Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir and also helped with Sunday school classes. The Blue Triangle Club was a good deeds and event planning club she participated in, where they collected and made toys to donate to the Children's Home and people in the hospital, they planned parties and dances, and a farewell party for the seniors.
Later in life, Beverly worked at the Galion Inquirer. She enjoyed her administrative duties and calling on local businesses to pick up ads for the paper. She called herself "a streetwalker" and loved her job because it gave her the opportunity to visit with people.
