Gary Gray Obituary

GALION -- Gary Lee Gray, locally known as "Grayhound" passed away peacefully on Friday March 24th after a well fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded with love by his daughters, Amee Jean Gray of Los Angeles, Lori Fasolino of Columbus and Michelle Renee Mason of Galion. His daughters stood around him, holding his hands reminiscing of all the good times they had with him at Dogwood Valley and Cedar Point as he gently left this earth for that great gig in the sky. He leaves behind two loving son-in-laws, Anthony Fasolino and Andrew Mason and 3 grandchildren, Madylin Geneva (16), Audrey (15) and Dylan (12). He is survived by his sister, Teresa (Bernie) Davis of New Albany and brother, Jeff (Bonnie Ewing) Gray of Kettering. He also has 2 nephews Brian (Martha) Davis and Trevor (Heath) Rowland-Davis and 1 niece, Heather (Seth) Seibold. He is also survived by first cousins Mark (kristine) Arnold of Caledonia and Cindy (Denny) Davis of Galion. He climbs the stairway to heaven behind his father and mother, Verlin Gene and Geneva Gray of Galion and many favorite aunts and uncles.

For nearly 73 years Gary "got by with a little help from his friends", many of whom he met through his love of music. He was a very talented drummer and played in several local bands including most recently the Roots and Branches. Gary was very friendly and was known to strike up a conversation with everyone he stood next to in line or sat next to in a restaurant. He loved to tell everyone he met how many Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd concerts he went to and about the time he met Eric Clapton. Gary was a proud union member of the Indiana Roofers Association.

Gary chose to be cremated and his ashes buried with his family in the Caledonia cemetery.

The family will plan for a picnic in the park and parade to the cemetery when the weather warms up. Friends and family will be notified when a date is set.

Wish you were here Grayhound, wish you here.

Gary was my first cousin. Our dads were brothers
Gary and my brother David were born 8 days apart. A year and a half earlier his sister Teresa and I were born. We were 10 days apart
I heard these facts mentioned lots of times growing up. Mostly at Grandma Grays house.
Gary was a little guy physically but he had a big heart
Always good for a hug
He lived around the corner a couple times
I drive by his house now and I can't imagine that he's not in there
I'm sorry he had to have cancer and suffer. But glad he's free of pain now. Rest in peace Gary
we will have a family reunion one of these days.

Wow that was an awesome tribute to a wonderful man!! U girls did ur daddy proud.
My friend, Gary Gray, never met a stranger. He had an infectious smile that instantly put others@ease. I met Gary approx 30 yrs ago, if not more & he was a much loved member of our band Roots & Branches for many yrs & someone my family & I just loved to jam with. I wish I could attach the last jam my brother, Josh & I had w/Gary about 4 yrs ago doin an impromptu Sweet Home Chicago. Ill always cherish it. It captured that conga beat n the classic Grayhound style I'd know
anywhere! We had so much fun recording it. I'm so happy to have it. I plan to get it uploaded to my YouTube channel soon so others can dig it along w/me forever. I loved Gary so much & will miss him dearly. He was one of a kind & someone I counted as a true friend n this world. Those r mighty hard to come by these days as I'm sure all of u well know. I wish we were still down here jammin but know he's sleeping peacefully till Jesus Christ's return eases my heart@least a lil bit. Knowing he believed God & was born again gives me so much peace. I'll always love him & his girls & will forever remember my wonderful friend, Gary Gray.

I am so very thankful to have know such an amazing human being as Mr Gary Gray. Having had the privilege to be in a band with him and being a longtime friend, one of my absolute favorite things The Hound would tell us all when any of us were complaining was "Ah! Not Thankful!" That kind and loving gentle reproof has always stayed with me. I find myself saying it to myself all the time and smiling as I think of Gary's smile and the twinkle in his eye as he said it. The world was a better place for him having been in it. The Lord has welcomed him home as a dearly beloved son and probably said something like, "wait till you see the set of Conga's I've had made just for you". My heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to his loving family. Thank you all for sharing him with the rest of us. You will see him again. God Bless and comfort you as you go thru this loss.

He had a huge , warm heart and would do anything for his friends.
