Janet Spraw Obituary
Born July 6, 1947, in Galion, she was the daughter of the late Ellsworth H. Ulmer and Betty J. (Crawford) Ulmer of Galion. She married David E. Spraw, January 26, 1969, and he survives.
Jan was a Galion High School graduate in 1965 and attended The Ohio State University. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and its Friends Sunday School class. Jan, or Janet, as her mother insists, described herself as an "under the radar volunteer." She enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, gardening, volunteer work and being a sports enthusiast.
Jan started her career working in the Galion City Schools Superintendent's office then worked briefly in Blufton at A to Z Portion Control Meats and at Rusco Industries in Pandora. She and Dave returned to Galion in 1970, and she was a substitute secretary at Galion's Dawsett Elementary School, later working several years in the Special Education Resource Center in Galion. She was a full-time mom and homemaker for seven years before returning to work at the Special Education Resource Center. She then worked at the Galion Inquirer full time as a copy editor and feature writer until her retirement in May 1996.
In addition to her husband, David, and her mother, Betty Ulmer, she is also survived by a daughter, Erin Spraw of West Hartford, Conn.; sister-in-law, Pat K. Spraw of Findlay; brother-in-law, Bill Spraw and wife Dee Dee of Findlay and close friend Heather Burns of West Hartford, Conn.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel in Galion where a memorial service will be held 1p.m. Wednesday, April 30, with Pastor Dreama Caudill officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Friends Sunday School class Family Christmas Project or to Crawford County Humane Society in care of Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel, 218 S. Market Street, Galion, Ohio 44833.
