Betty Schenk Obituary

Betty M. Schenk, 96, of Clearfield passed away Saturday September 27, 2025 at Penn Highlands Clearfield. After a very full life Betty has gone home to The Lord.

Born March 4, 1929 in West Decatur she was the daughter of Wayne and Geneva (Wisor) Mains. She was a 1947 graduate of Clearfield Area High School. She graduated from Clearfield Nursing School in 1967 with a B.S. in Nursing. She also graduated from St. Joseph's College in 1988 with a B.S. in Professional Arts. She spent the majority of her career as a Home Health Nurse- many of those years as Head of Home Health.

Betty was a dedicated member of Woodland United Methodist Church, holding many positions, including co-organizing the Summer Work Camps which still helps many in Clearfield County.

Betty lived in Chicago for 2 years giving much needed medical attention to the homeless all night, and driving a huge medical bus around the city. Her Chicago experience then led her to spend a year as Nurse in the Japanese Adult Day Care in Chicago. She also spent 3 years in Alaska as a nurse to needy people.

Her nursing and caring for people led Betty to many US cities to help rebuild homes lost in floods and fires. She also traveled to Africa and Sierra Leone to minister to those in outlaying areas. She also traveled to Canada, Paris, China and Israel, and of course, California and New Hampshire for pleasure.

Betty was Clearfield Woman of the Year in 2005.

She is survived by her daughter Nanette McGraw (husband Larry), son in law Jim Marino & grandchildren Erin Betz, Douglas McGraw & Sam Marino as well as great grandchildren-Jonas, Grace, Rowan, & Finn. Sisters Larue "Sis" Violanti, & Loretta Hooven, sisters in law Ann & Norene.

She was preceded in death by her husband Duane Schenk whom she married on July 28, 1950 and preceded her in death on October 26, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Joanne Marino, and a brother Wallace "Wally Mains.

A Memorial Service for Betty Schenk will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc., Curwensville on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 2 PM with Rev. R. Jeffrey Fisher officiating. Interment will be held in the Bradford Cemetery.

Yesterday

I do not know this wonderful lady, but after reading her obituary, I want her family to know that you should be immensely proud of her, her life, her career, and how she so unselfishly gave back to humanity. She touched so many people and cared for and about them. Her legacy is something to surely be proud of -- by hundreds if not thousands of people -- around the world. God bless her and her family for being such an amazing lady.
