Clyde Smay Obituary

Clyde G. Smay Sr., 87, of Clearfield passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Born February 28, 1938 in Clearfield he was the son of Raymond and Ursula (Passmore) Smay.

He was a 1956 graduate of Curwensville Area High School. He was a farmer and owned and operated Smay Farm. Clyde also worked at McDonald Land and Mine Company as a heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of the former Susquehanna Grange, a member of Curwensville Alliance Church, and formerly attended Centre Grove United Methodist Church.

He was a United States Army Veteran.

On April 20, 1968 in Maryland, he wed Marcia (Pentz) Smay who survives of Curwensville, along with five children. Clyde Smay Jr. of Clearfield, Kim Dimmick (Greg) of Kerrmoor, Cindy Ireland (Tom) of Curwensville, Vonda Evans (Mike) of Clearfield, and Autumn Farley (Randy) of Clearfield; grandchildren: Shane Smay, Dylan Smay (Melinda), Jessica Barret, Angela Dimmick, Kris Ireland (Holly), Catherine Evans, Ralph Evans, Jeremiah Farley, Alan Farley, and Ursula Farley; two great- grandchildren Aiden Barrett, and Rowan Smay.

He is also survived by three brothers Joseph Smay (Madeline) of Meadville, PA, Richard Smay (Ethel) Grampian, and Roy Smay (Dottie) FL. And a bonus sister Pam Birger of DE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Ted Smay, Garland Smay; a grandson Josh Ireland; brothers Rev. Bruce Smay, Bob Smay, and James Smay; and sisters Josephine Swatsworth, Norma Jean Anderson, Betty Cadden, Mary Marisa, and Isabella Smay.

Funeral services for Mr. Smay will be held at the Curwensville Alliance Church on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 11 AM with Rev. Stephen Shields officiating.

Interment will be held in the Crown Crest Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the church.

Family and friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 4-6 PM. And at the Curwensville Alliance Church on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 10 AM till the time of services at 11.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Curwensville Alliance Church, 725 Susquehanna Ave., Curwensville, PA 16833, or Activities Dept. at Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 30 4th Ave. Curwensville, PA 16833.
