Harry Gunter Obituary
Born June 23, 1937 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Lee Oxley and Laura Rachel (Simler) Gunter.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Janice (Hahn) Gunter; his two children, William "Ned" E. Gunter (Andrea Borger), Black Moshannon; Lee Gunter (Abby Bennett), Munson; his grandchildren, Corrinna Gunter and companion, Nate Shaw; Samantha Gunter and partner Mary Shaffer; Kelly Wimmer and husband Jason Wimmer; Alonna Gunter and husband Dustin Gunter; Mary Abigail Gunter and companion JD Gardner; Brian Gunter; Laura Gunter and Brian James; Jordon Gunter; his great-grandchildren, Elias Dillion; Spencer Shaw; Austin Gunter; Alivia Gunter; Aleena Gunter; a May grandbaby on the way; and his sister, Ruth Reese and husband Jim, Milroy.
Along with his parents, he was preceded by his in-laws, William and Mae Hahn and sister-in-law, Helen, and Ron Hahn.
Harry served in the United States Navy where he was a gunner aboard the USS Cotten. He worked at Penn State University for 44 years and from which he retired. He married his beautiful loving wife in 1960. Harry was of the Christian Faith and was a member of the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg. He was a big fan of Nascar, Penn State Sports, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Pirates. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two sons and grandsons and enjoyed his annual trips to New Smyrna Beach with his family. Harry was a family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was loved by many.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 12:00 Noon to 1:45 PM at Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, with a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 1:45 PM with Rev. Vicki Beilfuss officiating.
He will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery, Karthaus.
Military honors will be accorded at 1:45 PM at the funeral home by the Osceola Mills Community Honor Guard.
