Robert Thompson Obituary

Robert (Bob) L. Thompson of Vienna, Ohio, passed away August 20, 2025 at the Cleveland Clinic from cardiac arrest. Bob was born in Coalport, PA, the son of Robert W. Thompson & Sarah Boyle Sherwin. He was raised in Clearfield, PA. In school, he was active in football and wrestling and graduated with the Class of 1961.

Bob became a journeyman electrician and was a 50 plus year member of the IBEW working out of Local 573, Warren, OH. For the majority of his career he worked for Waynco Electric. He took pride in his work as well as the accomplishments of his apprentices.

In 1973 Bob married Peggy Jo (Knepp) McCune and together they created a life they loved. Both enjoyed theater. They were season ticket holders at Kenley Players, Warren Civic Music, and Trumbull New Theatre. They also volunteered to serve as ushers at Powers Auditorium.

Bob enjoyed shopping at garage sales and setting up to sell at area flea markets. He and his wife liked to hunt for antiques and all things vintage. When their collecting got out of hand (Bob's fault, lol!) they opened a booth at Historica Plus in their hometown of Clearfield, PA, before relocating closer to home at Auntie's Antiques in Parkman, OH.

Bob and Peg served as Youth Advisors at the Vienna United Methodist Church for 17 years. Many friendships formed with members of the youth group continue to this day.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Lou Geppert, and his brother-in-law Thomas Knepp. He is survived by his wife, his son Mark (Sue) Thompson of Denver, CO, his grandchildren Emily, Ethan and Joshua (Lauren) Thompson also of Denver, CO, his stepson Michael McCune of Vienna, OH, his brother-in-law Joseph Geppert of Clearfield, PA, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members and a long list of friends.

Cremation has taken place. Per his request there will be no formal services. Any donations in his memory can be made to TNR of Warren, PO Box 194, Cortland, OH, 44410 or an organization of the donor's choice. The family is in the care of Lane Funeral Home, Madasz Chapel. Online condolences can be made at www.lanefuenralhomes.com.
