Samuel Ray Smeal, 54, of Houtzdale unexpectedly went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022.

Born Oct. 31, 1968 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Leroy C. and Nancy C. (McKay) Smeal.

Sam is survived by his son, Mason; siblings, Deb Dufour and her husband, Rich, James Smeal and his wife, Lori, Lisa Richardson and her husband, Rick, Jennifer Hite, Charles Smeal and Doug Smeal, along with many nieces and nephews.

He worked at the Walmart Distribution Center. Sam was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge #515. He was a loyal member of the Houtzdale Moose and the Morann Citizens Club.

Family and friends will be received at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 at the Parsonville Assembly of God Church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Sam's brother James Smeal will preside over the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be in Baughman Cemetery.

I am so sorry to find out that Sam passed. Sam was such a great guy. He had a wonderful, giving heart and would do anything for anyone. His smile was contagious and he could make anyone laugh even in the worst of situations. He will be greatly missed by so many. Fly high Sam and watch over us all until we meet again. R.I.P
