Alice James

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC- Alice Beckham James, age 81, wife of Bobby Carl James, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
Born in Winnsboro, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Barnes Beckham and Pearl McLaughlin Beckham. She met and married her beloved husband Bobby in Gastonia, NC. During their 63-year-marriage, they also lived in Rock Hill, SC and North Myrtle Beach, SC. She was a retired manager with the Sears credit department.
She and Bobby were members of the OD Shag Club and faithful attendees of the annual SOS convention. During her beach days, she was a regular (and pretty good) card player. She spent many a midday with a group of girlfriends known as "The Lunch Bunch," part of the warm circle of cherished friends she gathered throughout her life. And she was an enthusiastic ambassador for her son's syndicated radio program, "The John Boy and Billy Big Show."
In addition to her husband, Mrs. James is survived by her son, Billy James and his wife Polly; her daughter, Lori James Carter and her husband Todd; grandchildren David James, Andy James, James Carter, Mary Carter, and Peter Carter; a brother, Lee Beckham and his wife Anne; and Alice's "honorary daughter" Jackie Curry. Mrs. James was predeceased by a brother, Wilbur Edward Beckham.
A private memorial service will be held by the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests each of us do our best to live life with the generous good cheer and playful sense of humor she radiated every day.
