Dawn Oates Obituary
She was born in Gaston County, daughter of Annie Poindexter Ellington of Mount Holly and the late Darrell Ray Ellington.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ellington.
She was a customer service representative with American and Efird Inc. and at the time of her death was front desk manager at Microtel Inn, Charlotte.
She is survived by one daughter, Christian Nicole Oates and her companion, Josh Berndt of Charlotte; two stepdaughters, Angela Oates of Charlotte, and Randi Oates Morgan of Lowell; one sister, Phyllis Ellington Garrison and husband Darrell of Mount Holly; one nephew, Josh Garrison and his wife Jenna of Mount Holly; one niece, Michelle Ellington Williams and her husband Tripp of Columbia, S.C.; and five stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Oates will be 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at The First Free Will Baptist Church, 841 Noles Drive, Mount Holly, with Reverend Randy Arrowood officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church and at other times will be at the home of Phyllis and Darrell Garrison, 200 Antelope Drive, Mount Holly.
Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly is serving the Oates family.

Nicole, your Mom was so proud of you! She told me that many times and also mentioned that you were absolutely beautiful! My prayers are with you and your family. Dawn was such a sweet girl when we went to school together. She'll always be remembered.

You and I never met but my Brother Larry would light up a room mentioning "Momma Dawn" and I just wanted 2 thank you 4 being there 4 my brother when he felt the World had deserted him, and even in all your sickness and problems, I see and understand why every1 called u "Momma Dawn", I won't say Rest In Peace, because I Know your Resting Well In Our Father Arms, May You still keep check on my brother from time 2 time, Because "Momma Dawn" you done something 2 and 4 him that has Truly left a impression on him No1 else could!
