Hazel Beatty Obituary

BELMONT - Hazel Rea Poteat Beatty, 84, passed away on Dec. 29, 2015.

She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late John and Anner Poteat.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Ray Beatty, five siblings, Bud Poteat, Bill Poteat, Ruby Weathers, Pauline Kitchen and Alma Hope, a grandchild Donnie Backus and two infant sons, Terry Jean and Larry Dean Beatty. She retired from the textile industry and was a member of Centerview Baptist Church.

She is survived by five children, Wanda Backus and husband Donald of Iron Station, Betty Houston and husband Stephen of Asheville, Tony Beatty and wife Linda of Mount Holly, Ronnie Beatty and wife Wanda of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Bob Beatty and Regina Tisdale of Belmont; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Beatty will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at New Life Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly and at other times will be at the home of Tony Beatty, 101 Dawn Drive, Mount Holly.
