Hugh Tyner Obituary
Born in Smithfield, N.C., he was the son of the late Carl Vann Tyner and Nina Dickey Tyner.
Dr. Tyner graduated from Wake Forest College and Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He practiced medicine in Gastonia from 1954 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served in the US Army.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Tyner was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Katherine Tyner and a son, Carl Vann Tyner II.
Dr. Tyner is survived by his children and their spouses, Wayne and Wendy Tyner, and Carol and Brooks Johnson, all of Belmont; grandsons, Garrett and Tyler Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service for Dr. Tyner beginning at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. The Rev. Dr. Joan C. Martin will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.

My prayers are with your family. Dr. Tyner was a wonderful surgeon who helped me at 3 years old when an accident occurred. His name came up quite often by my mother who was so grateful and so am I. God Bless.

Our deepest sympathy. Dr. Tyner was a wonderful person as well as a great doctor. He has been the family surgeon for 4 generations for both sides of our family. Our prayers are with you. He lived a good life and did a lot of good for all.

It can be so hard to face the New Year without your loved one, but the love of family & friends can make it easier. Dr. Tyner was a great surgeon, wonderful man & loved by all those who worked with him in the OR & his patients loved him. He will be truly missed. My God bless you at this difficult time.
