James McDowell Obituary

OXON HILL, MD. - James Edward McDowell Jr., 58, left his earthly life Thursday Nov. 5, 2009, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

He was born April 3, 1951, in Shelby, the son of Elsie M. McDowell of Shelby and the late James Edward McDowell Sr.

He married the former Acquanette Gainey of Palmetto, Fla., on July 31, 1976. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church, where he served on the Men's Choir and Security Ministry.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tonya Yvette McDowell.

He is survived by his wife, Acquanette Gainey McDowell; three sons of the home, Dr. Brian Edward McDowell, Marcus Antonio McDowell and Corey James McDowell, all of Oxon Hill, and Maurice McDowell of Shelby; his mother; three brothers, Ricky (Joan) McDowell of Macon, Ga., Wayne McDowell of Claremore, Okla., and Michael K. McDowell of Shelby; seven sisters, Gwendolyn Lawrence (Bobby Sr.), Sylvia (Chuckey) Phillips, Sheliah (Anthony) Webber, Janet (Mikel) Dillard, Angela (Buddy Jr.) Jones, all of Shelby, Cheryl McDowell of Decatur, Ga., and Lisa (Andre) Jeffries of N. Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends.

The funeral service will be held at Paramount Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., Wednesday Nov. 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Genesis Funeral Chapel in Shelby.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

The family will be at the home of Sheliah and Anthony Webber, 120 Jenny Drive in Shelby.
