Jean Goebel Obituary

Gastonia
"All artists use their imagination…like borrowing a story from the future".
Jean Liederbach Goebel, 88, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2018 with her family by her side. Jean was born November 13, 1929 in Cuyahoga County, OH to the late Theodore and Anne (Pejsa) Liederbach. Jean grew up loving art and won a scholarship to Cleveland Institute of Art. She was a well-known free-lance fine artist in the Charlotte region and worked with various commercial companies and private individuals throughout her years as an artist. She was a member of the Gaston County Art Guild and Southern Arts Society Incorporated and donated many art renderings to businesses, churches and other professions in Gastonia. She also had the opportunity to illustrate several children's books, taught art for several years and was the Arts Director for Arts Engraving Company Incorporated. Jean was also a gifted seamstress and enjoyed designing clothes for her family as well as businesses. She had a special place in her heart as a board member and volunteer for Gaston Residential Services for over thirty years and befriended a special lady named Liz who was always included with the Goebel family gatherings. Jean was a beloved, wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Pete Goebel of Midland, NC, Tom Goebel (Penny) of Tega Cay, SC, Susan Robinson (Ed) of Weddington, NC; grandchildren, Jason Goebel (Taryn), Josh Goebel (Angela), Allison Killowitz (Kerry), Will Goebel (Ashley), Tyler Robinson (Jordan) and Lauren Robinson (fiancé Bryson Rider); brothers, Tom Liederbach of Gates Mills, OH, Ted Liederbach of Willoughby, OH; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bregitzer of Mayfield Heights, OH; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty years, William Goebel; sister, Sister Mary Lynn, SND; daughter-in-law, Edwina Goebel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gastonia on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Reverend Father Lucas Rossi will preside.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Arts Society, 301 N. Piedmont Avenue, Kings Mountain, NC 28086; Gaston Residential Services; St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Tom
My sincere sympathy to you and Penny!
I NEVER knew she was an artist and illustrated children's books. We have so much in common I would have loved to have met her. Please share what children's books she illustrated and I will purchase for my GrandTwins.
Again---My sympathy!
