June Cathey Obituary

STANLEY - June Burnette Brumley Cathey passed into the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 17, 2018 at Stanley Total Living Center.

Born February 24, 1932 to the late Norine Warren and Jennis (Jack) Burnette in Charlotte. She was a graduate of Harding High School where she was a cheerleader. She attended Wingate University and later worked in banking. She was preceded in death by her first husband Harold Brumley and second husband James Cathey. After the birth of her first child, Cynthia, she was a homemaker who always made her family and friends feel welcome in her home. June, who had a jovial personality and never met a stranger, was known for her deep Christian faith, love for church, and her keen sense of humor. She enjoyed church activities, gardening, cooking for others and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Cindy (Ben) Kennedy and their daughter Lindsay Watts of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; Brenda (Howard) Herman of Harrisburg and their children Caitlin (John) Suther and Julia (Ross) Stroup and their son, Bryson; James (Sandra) Cathey, Jr. of Huntersville, and their children Jess (Amy) Cathey and their daughter Stella; and Laura (Chris) Watts and their daughter Cameran; Glenda (Edward) Brouwer of Canton and their children Natalie (Lee) Wilson, Rachel (Julian) Bacon and Matthew (Clair) Brouwer; John (Kellie) Cathey of Denver and Jill (David) Wesson of Shelby and their children Macy, Eli and Tucker.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at Freedom Presbyterian 1646 Toddville Road Charlotte.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to the compassionate staff of Stanley Total Living Center for their years of loving care of June. We would also like to express our appreciation for the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Lincoln County for their comfort and care these last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association at https://billygraham.org/checkout/give-honor-memorial.php.
