Peter Campbell Obituary

GASTONIA - Peter Charles Campbell, born Sept. 21, 1946, passed away at home after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Born in Freeport, NY he was the son of the late Everett Wallace Campbell and Ruth Mae Abrams Campbell. He served as an engineer at Wix, Gastonia.

He was a loving husband, doting father and beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews, who looked up to him as a role model.
He served as a member of the US Air Force for seven years as a staff sergeant, primarily in Thailand, as a nuclear weapons technician. His hobby was centered around woodworking; he made beautiful and unique hope chests for his family as wedding gifts and his cabinetry work is featured throughout his home. He was a wealth of information and his friends and neighbors knew they could call on him for the information they needed when it came to home, auto repairs and anything to do with computers from hard drives to programs. He was a "foodie" before it was popular. He loved spending time in the kitch-en; it gave him great pleasure to prepare gourmet meals for his family especially during the holidays. His homemade garlic butter and prime rib recipes were the epitome of fine dining at home. A member of the Wildlife Club of Catawba, Peter loved target shooting and the art of reloading guns as well as refurbish-ing older models of rifles and handguns.

Peter had been a Grizzlies supporter since the inception of the team. . . each year he provided housing and support for as many as four players in a given season. He loved baseball, especially the Grizzlies!

Survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen Farrell Campbell, Gastonia, daughter Meghan Campbell, Conway, SC, sister Wendy Joan Thompson and husband, Richard, Colorado Springs, CO, and his nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McLean Funeral Directors, Gastonia.

A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at McLean Funeral Directors – Founders Chapel, Gastonia with burial immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Holy Angels, PO Box 710, Belmont, NC 28012.

Condolence message may be sent to www.mcleanfuneral.com.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Pete many years at Wix and enjoyed his sense of humor....he knew I collected 'quotes' and he had some of his own that he shared with me - very interesting they were! Pete loved his family and talked about you all frequently and even shared snow pictures from his sister's house in Colorado! My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
