Robert Haygood III

Charlotte - Robert Crisler "Chris" Haygood, III, 36, passed away at home on Monday, May 3, 2021. He was born March 26, 1985 in Gastonia, a son of Robert Gordon Haygood and the late Jane Peeler Haygood.

Chris was a graduate of Forestview High School and NC State University. For the last 11 years he worked for Duke Energy. Chris filled so much life into 36 short years. He absolutely adored his family and friends, and had the biggest heart you could imagine. He was the life of the party and got the most joy out of making others laugh.

He equally loved playing and watching football. During his time at Forestview High School he earned numerous awards and was excited to train at NC State, with Todd Stroud. His years of getting beat up on by his older brother gave him the toughness needed to be an all-conference football player.

Chris had so many loving friends and thoroughly enjoyed anytime he was able to spend around them. He was truly best friends with his siblings, John and Holly. They enjoyed playing golf together, tailgating for Wolfpack football games, snow skiing at Beech Mountain, and annual beach trips. Family was everything to Chris. He has left this world far too soon and is already being missed so much. There is great peace knowing that he is reacquainted with his mother, appropriately right before Mother's Day. We love you so much Chris and we will see you in Heaven.

In addition to his mother Jane Haygood, Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert C. Haygood, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Dr. Lackey Boggs and Dorothy Turner Peeler, and uncle Joe Baker.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, Gordon Haygood of Gastonia; brother John L. Haygood and wife Kelley Beth of Belmont; sister, Holly Elizabeth Haygood of Raleigh; niece and nephew, Olivia Jane and Jonathan Lackey Haygood, Jr.; aunts, Vicki Baker, Jacki and Steve Chapman, Laura Morrison, and Patti Haygood; uncle, Bo Peeler; cousins, Kristen and Joe Girodano, Kim and Dave Webb, Kelley and Eric Clay, Stephen and Michelle Morrison; other extended family and many friends.

A service to celebrate Chris' life will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, May 8, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Gastonia with Rev. Dr. Matthew Burton, Becky Greene and Rev. Avery White officiating. The service will be live streamed. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center.
