Thomas Baker Obituary

KINGS MOUNTIAN - Dr. Thomas P. Baker, 80, of 408 Phifer Road, died Sept. 6, 2008, at Carolinas Specialty Hospital, Charlotte.

He was born in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Luther Philip Baker and Mary Tipton Polyette Baker. He was also preceded in death by a son Thomas P. Baker Jr.; brothers Luther Philip Baker Jr., Dr. Robert N. Baker and Richard G. Baker. He was a dentist and practiced in Kings Mountain for 34 years.

He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Kings Mountain, a member of the Kiwanis Club, a lifelong member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He also attended N.C. State University, completed undergraduate studies at Lenoir-Rhyne College and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1961in 1961. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

SURVIVORS: Wife of 57 Years, Mary Beth Hord Baker; sons, Dr. Bryan S. Baker and wife, Patricia, Kings Mountain, Dr. Stephen A. Baker and wife, Sandra, Kings Mountain, David A. Baker, Kings Mountain, Jonathan L. Baker and wife, Samatha, Kings Mountain; sister, Mary Tipton "Peggy" Baker Fulford, Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Jackie Summerow Baker, Kings Mountain; sisters-in-law, Ruby Hughes Baker, Kings Mountain, Mary Louise Baker, Waco, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Baker Licayan, Brandon Baker, Caroline Baker, Elizabeth Baker, Sam Baker, Robert Baker, Meredith Baker, Anne Scott Baker, James Parsons, Jonathan Baker, Jacob Baker, Miles Summerow, Jessie Summerow; and great-grandchild, Mallory Sims.

FUNERAL SERVICE: St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at 4 p.m. Pastor Bill Jeffcoat and Dr. John Sloan, officiating

VISITATION: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Home
