Daniel Esrick Obituary
NORTHAMPTON, MA - Daniel Sharkey Esrick, beloved son, brother, friend, and uncle, died on Monday, November 25, 2024. He is survived by his mother and father, Ann and Steven Esrick, his sisters, Hannah Gray (Jody Gray) and Dipti Esrick, his niece and nephew, Olivia and Jackson Gray. He was 29 years old.
Daniel was born at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, MA on August 11, 1995. He went to Gan Keshet Preschool and Jackson Street Grade School. It was in kindergarten that Daniel's music teacher introduced him to Elvis Presley and inspired a lifelong love of music. He studied guitar. He went to John F Kennedy Middle School and Northampton High School. He enjoyed the comraderie of sports and made incredible friends who stood by him until the end of his life.
In college, he studied Biology, then Physics and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Political Science major. He graduated from Temple Law School with honors in 2022 and was published in the Temple Law Review. Upon graduation, Daniel worked as a lawyer for the state of New Jersey practicing Administrative Law. He aspired to work in Environmental Law.
Daniel wrote, "There is only today, this moment, and the next … Try to keep your face to the Sun. There is great darkness, there is also great Light."
In the last months of his life, he spent time in nature- his last entry in his journal-
"Dust in the sunlight
The crispness of fall
Cold before the warmth
The river to the farm store
The hill with lilacs"
Daniel was a brilliant person with an incredibly strong will, a gentle loving heart, a deep love of community and family, and a commitment to keep trying until the end.
His life teaches us that we can control very little. All we can do is love deeply and honor one another. The family will receive friends for calling hours on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024 at AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. The family asks, if one wishes, that donations be made to The Nature Conservancy

Dave T and I coached Dan back in the day, on the Northampton Golden Eagles club soccer team. I remember Dan as being a quiet yet mighty fullback who was always a full-on player, someone who gave his all no matter the circumstances. I know from talking with Noah that Dan's wide circle of NHS friends have always admired his strength and kindness. They will miss him terribly.

I remember when Daniel and I really wanted a dog for our family pet. We made a music video and changed the lyrics to "Who let the dogs out"
I remember carrying him on my hip when I was 9 years old. So proud to have a baby brother.
