Elsie Kessler Obituary

EASTHAMPTON - Elsie M. Kessler, 1922 – 2016, 93, entered into eternal peace and rest Sunday, March 6, 2016. She lived a long and independent life until passing shortly after multiple strokes. Elsie was born in Chicopee, a daughter of Francis E. and Alice G. (McGuigan) Herlihy and a graduate of Chicopee High School.

A longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Easthampton, Elsie served on the Ladies Aid Society, was a church greeter, took care of the alter candles, flowers, and communion preparation. She was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Elsie was a faithful servant of Christ and will be sadly missed.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Frank M. Kessler, Sr. in June of 2009. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Irene Brough, Mary Murphy, Eleanor Tucker, and Edith Lorbieski; two brothers, Frank and William Herlihy; and her parents.

Elsie is survived by four sons, Frank M Kessler Jr. and wife Anita of Suffield, CT., William J. Kessler and wife Evelyn of Easthampton, Dennis J. Kessler  and Erlinda of Anchorage, Alaska, and Phillip M. Kessler of Huntington; three daughters, Alice L. Mahar and husband Michael of Northampton, Nancy J. Glynn and husband John of Westfield, and Betty-Ann Kwolek and husband Alexander of Easthampton; 14 grandchildren, Anita M. Susco and husband Amory, Frank M. Kessler III and wife Amanda, Ryan M. Mahar and wife Abigail, Sean M. Mahar and wife Missy, Jamie M. Mahar and wife Lauren, John M. Glynn and wife Melissa, Kim M. Glynn, Brian T. Kessler and wife Marlene, Rebecca A. Kessler, Jillian E. Marchand and husband Matthew, Alexander G. Kwolek, Darren J. Kessler, David J. Kessler, and Lindsay J. Kessler and fiancé Nathaniel Parks; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A private funeral will be held Friday, March 11, at the Mitchell Funeral Home followed by burial in Brookside Cemetery, all of Easthampton. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church General Fund, 2 Clark St., Easthampton, MA 01027.
