Ernest Carver Obituary

Ernest H. Carver Jr.

GOSHEN, MA - Ernest H. Carver Jr., 99, of Berkshire Trail West, passed away peacefully at the Holyoke Medical Center on Nov. 16, 2024. He was the oldest living resident of Goshen. He lived in Goshen for 72 years and for the past 5 months was a resident of the Holyoke Veteran's Home. Born in Cummington, MA on July 27, 1925, he was the son of the late Ernest H. Carver Sr. and Viola Carver. Ernie was a graduate of Smith School. His first job was as a farmer at the Warner Farm in Cummington. He joined the service at the age of 18 where he served in WWII as a member of the Army/Air Force from October 1943 to March 1946. He served in the South Pacific, New Guinea and Australia. After returning from the service he worked as a mechanic for the Cummington Garage, and then drove truck for Franklin W. Streeter. In 1950 he became a tool & dye maker for the Pro-Brush Corporation in Florence. He worked there for the next 55 years, maintaining large plastic molding systems for toothbrushes, light louvers, and computer housings until 2005. In addition, he also assisted at The Cummington Fair for many years, and helped his wife, Carolyn, with janitorial services for the Goshen Center School for 11 years.

He married his wife, Carolyn Carver, on August 25th, 1951. They were married for 58 years until her passing in 2009. Ernie was an avid square dancer and assisted running dances for many years. He also loved deer hunting, playing cards, fishing, playing baseball, rooting for the Red Sox, tossing horseshoes and cutting wood. He was an avid outdoors man.

Ernie was always ready to help out anyone in need. He was a kind, generous man. Everyone who knew Ernie, especially his family, who loved him dearly, will sorely miss him.

He is predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Andrews Carver. He leaves his son, Gary Ernest Carver, of Wilmington, VT, and his daughter, Fern Carver Michonski of Simsbury, CT, two brothers, George Carver of Dalton, MA and William Carver of Cummington, MA. He is predeceased by four sisters, Helen, Ruth, Lillian and Dorothy. He also leaves five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
