Eugene Bachand Obituary

Eugene " Tony" Bachand

Easthampton, MA - Easthampton, MA – Eugene A. Bachand, 77, of Easthampton, sadly passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 15, 2025.

Eugene (better known as Tony) was born in Northampton, MA on August 19, 1947. He was the son of the late Francis Bachand and Blanche (Letourneau) Bachand. He was raised in Leeds and attended local schools, including Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School and was kicked out several times (a fact that he was immensely proud of and would brag about at length) until ultimately graduating from Northampton High School in 1968.

Tony worked a variety of jobs in his early years from ProBrush to the Miss Florence Diner to the state hospital. While working for Ed's heating, he found his field that would become his life's work. He ventured out on his own in 1979 establishing Tony Bachand's Oil Burner Service, a business he owned and operated for over 45 years right up until his passing. His mottos were "The Best for Less" and "If it can't be done, I can do it." He was hardworking and beloved by his customers, always going the extra mile and never charging nearly enough.

Tony enjoyed the simple things in life, from birdwatching, to watching westerns, to spending time with family and friends. Tony was a people person at heart. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He could talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything. He had a quick wit and loved to tell stories. He made friends wherever he went.

Tony was a car enthusiast from the beginning, always tinkering with or modifying his cars, motorcycles and trucks. His greatest accomplishment, next to his family and business, was his 1937 Ford that he built from the ground up, entirely himself. He, along with his wife, Susan, were staples at local car shows and cruise nights. Over his cruising career, he won over 90 trophies.

Tony is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan. His daughters, Tryni of Leeds, Rebecca and Meghan of Easthampton. He is also survived by his brother Francis and wife Kathy, two nephews Jason and Matthew Bachand, two grandsons Corbin Marcil and Andin Pierce and a brother-in-law Edwin Stawarz, Jr. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his brothers Kenny and Michael.

He is also survived by his dear friends, Mike Jasmin, Mike Cliché, the Leeds boys, Dominic Mastrangelo, David Pascoe, Eugene Vanasse, Tommy Labrie, and numerous others, far too many to mention here. He loved you all.

Tony was a true example of being a great husband, father and friend. He lived a full life, and he will be missed tremendously by all. We love you, Tony.

A Gathering of Family & Friends are welcome to visit with family on Sunday, April 27th from 1-4pm at the Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 18 Adams Street in Easthampton whom has been honorably entrusted with Tony's care and service request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Willie Ross School for the Deaf, 32 Norway Street, Longmeadow, a place close to Tony's heart where his grandson graduated from. Tony and I have known each other for over seventy years. We graduated from the same kindergarten class together. We have had many adventures and miss-adventures together over those years. I will miss visiting with him at our breakfasts in the future. He will be missed. Very sorry for your loss.
