Frederick Pirog Obituary

FREDERICK PIROG

Hadley, MA - Fred was born in Holyoke on November 5, 1948. The Family moved to Fair Street in Northampton soon after.

He is predeceased by his parents Eugene and Albina (Drozdal) Pirog and a younger brother, Frank Pirog. As well as some aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Fred attended local schools. He was drafted into the army after graduation from NHS. After basic training, he served in Vietnam. He was assigned to the Intelligence Division. He was a guard for a physician who flew to different hospitals which were run by French nuns. He was honorably discharged after one tour of duty, PVT, returning home he had to spend time in a VA hospital to be treated for infectious hepatitis.

He worked for the Northampton DPW which was interrupted by the passage of Prop 2 ½. Fortunately, he was able to resume his position after a short period of time. He had also, under the GI Bill graduated from STCC in Springfield with a Liberal Arts Degree, after his tour of duty in Vietnam.

As a young boy, he worked on a farm owned by his grandparents, Andrew and Anna Drozdal. He picked asparagus and helped grow all types of summer and winter produce.

Fred and Elizabeth were married in October 8, 1983, after meeting on a "blind date". The two travelled to many places over the years, as Fred was an avid scuba diver. They visited Mexico, Caman Brac, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, St. Martin, Curacao. They vacationed nearly every summer in Gloucester. They became friends with the owners of the B&B where they stayed.

Fred and his brother were regular recyclers of metal. Fred continued until his death. He also loved the outdoors, various cats over the years and all animals in general.

Fred died at the home in Hadley he had inherited, which was the original home of his grandparents.

He was a kind, generous person. He will be missed by his loving wife and many friends.

Gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association or your local animal shelter, or any Veterans Aid.

Calling Hours will be held on Monday October 20 from 5-7pm at the Czelusniak Funeral Home, 173 North Street, Northampton. An In-House service will be held on Tuesday October 21 at 10am at the Czelusniak Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
