I still miss Richard. With some people it's just that way. A prodigious intellect, a kind manner and a robust sense of humor all made him a most agreeable companion and colleague.

Richard was truly a pioneer in his chosen field. I had the good fortune of working with Richard shortly after he founded Millitech in 1983. It was a challenging time which much was accomplished. Richard was so very innovative and contributed greatly to millimeter wave technology.

Richard was a pioneer and a leader; innovative and creative. He had the vision to create new things and the drive and energy to move through obstacles to accomplish his goals. He and his close colleagues elevated Astronomy to be one of the first major research areas at UMass Amherst with national visibility.
