Herman Dufresne Obituary

Herman O. Dufresne Jr.

Williamsburg, MA - Herman Octave Dufresne Jr., 85, of Williamsburg passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born in Northampton on September 16, 1939, to the late Herman and Charlotte (Lezinski) Dufresne Sr.

He had attended school in Haydenville and Williamsburg and was a graduate of Smith Vocational High School. Herman was an U.S. Army Veteran, stationed in Germany. He worked for the former Boston & Maine Railroad, which is now named Springfield Terminal for 30 years before retiring in 2002 and was also President and member of the Williamsburg Lions Club.

For many years Herman enjoyed camping with family and friends, snowmobiling and listening to country music. He was a car enthusiast; especially T-Birds, builder and tool maker; there was nothing he could not do. His home of 75 years was important to him, always puttering around the garage daily, and tending to their four horses for years. He treasured his good friends and was always available for conversation with anyone. Most of all, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and their cat, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sheila (Morse) Dufresne, his son Daniel Dufresne and his wife Heather of Worthington, his daughter Jennifer Martin and her husband William of Chesterfield, grandchildren, Leah and Braden Martin, and Lily Dufresne, his brother Bruce Dufresne of Florence, his sister, Linda Sarafin Rowley of Haydenville, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday March 27, 2025, from 9 AM – 11 AM at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME, 120 DAMON RD, NORTHAMPTON, followed by a prayer service in the Funeral Home at 11 AM. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow in St. Mary's of Assumption Cemetery in Leeds.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas, 66675.
