J. EUGENE SIELSKI

Easthampton, MA - J. Eugene "Gene" Sielski passed away peacefully at age 98 on April 18, 2025 in his home at Lathrop Community, Easthampton, Massachusetts. During his final months, he was under the attentive care of Cooley Dickinson VNA and Hospice.

He was born in Whately, Massachusetts in 1927. Gene grew up working on the family farm, speaking both Ukrainian and English, where he helped grow and harvest onions, potatoes, and other vegetables.

In 1951, he married Irene Mary Mordas. They resided in Northampton, where he worked at a plumbing store. He was an avid gardener, and sold beautiful flowers and produce, including bushels of basil and garlic braids, to restaurants, farmers' markets and florists throughout the Valley.

When he moved to Lathrop Community, he helped to establish the community garden there, and grew his own vegetables well into his 80s. He loved his family and enjoyed sharing meals, especially pierogi and golabki. He also enjoyed square dancing and card games, especially pitch.

Gene is predeceased by his parents, Alex and Sophie Sielski of Whately, Massachusetts, two brothers, John and Walter Sielski, and one sister Anne Sielski Partenheimer. His wife, Irene, passed away in 1996.

He is survived by his companion of over twenty-five years, Marjorie Tauer, three nieces, Linda Graves of Northampton, Donna Carver of Brunswick, Maine, Barbara Sielski of Northampton and nephew, John A. Sielski of Easthampton.

A Calling Hour will be held Monday April 28, 2025 from 9:30 am to 11 am at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton. An In-House Service will follow at 11 am.
