James Evert Anderson
Kensington, MD - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, James Anderson, age 16, on September 21 in Kensington, MD.
James was born on February 1, 2009, in Washington, D.C. From an early age, he developed a love for baseball and treasured attending games at Nationals Park with family and friends. His life was filled with strong friendships. These friendships began during his years at Kensington Nursery School, Rock View Elementary, Newport Mill Middle, and Wheaton High School.
James found joy in playing baseball and basketball throughout Montgomery County, MD, building lifelong bonds along the way. He especially cherished his time with the Rockville Rockets, the Holy Redeemer Cardinals, and the Wheaton Knights, where he was happiest and most at peace on the pitcher's mound. He was blessed to have had coaches and teammates who exemplified integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field. He also loved playing basketball at St. Paul Park with friends, attending high school football games, and meeting up with friends at the Wheaton Mall.
Beyond sports, James had a spirit of adventure and a love for travel. His favorite trip was a family vacation to Hawaii in 2023, where he enjoyed snorkeling, jet skiing, and exploring the ocean. He also enjoyed fishing with both of his grandfathers. These memories will be forever cherished.
James is survived by his loving parents, Caty and Zach, both originally from Haydenville; his sister, Anna; his maternal grandparents, Cindy and Jim DiDonato, of Haydenville; his great-grandmother, Theresa Lipski, of Northampton; his paternal grandfather, Bob Anderson, of Conway, and wife, Suzie Albert; his aunts, Astrid Anderson, of Haydenville, and Susan Shaw, originally from Haydenville; his uncle, Ryan Shaw; his cousins, Sonny and Maverick Shaw, and James' beloved bulldog, Salty. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Susanne Anderson, who was a beloved and talented musician throughout the Pioneer Valley.
A Catholic mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Parish in Kensington, MD, followed by a mass at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at Wheaton High School at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, James' family encourages loved ones to donate to the James Anderson Memorial Fund. Donations will provide family with assistance for James' service, and all excess funds will go towards the fund, which will provide assistance to a senior Wheaton baseball player pursuing higher education.
