John Papillon Obituary

John Patrick Papillon

Chesterfield, MA — John Patrick Papillon, 65, of Chesterfield MA passed away peacefully on May 16, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer, his loving wife Nancy by his side. Born July 15, 1956 in Northampton MA to his late parents Robert Papillon and Kathleen (Clifford) Papillon.

"Jack" grew up in Williamsburg, attending Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School where, among other things, he was enrolled in ROTC. He left school early to join the United States Navy, serving proudly in the Sea Bees, while earning his high school diploma in "A" School. Using the skills he learned while serving, Jack joined the carpenter's union, where he was a proud working member and longtime Executive Board member, until a workplace accident forced an early retirement.

Whether coaching his son's baseball teams or playing basketball/football games in the yard, Jack devoted his life to his family. Vacation was most always a camping trip, as he was a lover of the outdoors. His love of hunting, fishing, and shooting he instilled in his own boys, as well as his grandkids. Maker of the best breakfast around, he loved to cook. He could be found grilling, even in the dead of winter, and was annually the cook at deer camp.

Jack leaves behind his lifelong love and wife of 48 years, Nancy (LaFogg), his sons Michael and his love, Holly, Kevin, Allen and wife Lyndsey. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Cody, Liam, Cynthea "Thea" and Logan, brother James Papillon, stepbrother Donald Lawton and stepsister Debra Turner.

Prior to his passing, Jack donated his body to UMASS Medical for scientific research.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held June 4, 2022 at the Four Seasons Club on River Road in Chesterfield at 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jack's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758514, Topeka KS 66675-8516.

Jack liked to help. When I tried to walk farther than I should, he came by and offered to drive me home. When we were building our house, he offered to help with spackling the sheet rock, and people just never offer to do that. He was a real friend.

Shocked to see my cousin Jackie's passing. Although we only saw each other once in a great while it was like we just saw each other yesterday. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Nancy and his children and cousin Jimmy.

Pap was one great guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him while serving together in the Seabees. We had many a great night, singing and laughing with Wild Bill, Mac , Jack, Artie and a host of others. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He now sings with the Angels. God Bless him and his family, whom he loved so very much. I am very sorry for your loss.

Jack was a patriot and a friend to anyone he talked too.
He loved his boys and grandkids you could tell by the way he lit up when he talked about you.
Nancy, you and jack had a love for each other that few people ever find.
I know he passed happy not because he was leaving but because he knew he was loved by his family and his friends !
