Kenneth Lynds Obituary

LEEDS – Kenneth W. Lynds, 63, died Monday, May 11, 2015, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Ken was born in Northampton, the son of the late Clinton and Priscilla (Porter) Lynds. Ken was a proud alumnus of Hopkins Academy and could often be overheard retelling the history of their athletic prowess, in both soccer and basketball, in the late 1960's.

Ken was a former president of the Massachusetts Wood Producers Association, a director of the Hampshire County Farm Bureau, member of the Massachusetts Forest Alliance, owner of A-2-Z General Contractors and Lawn Care, and an enthusiastic entrepreneur.

His passion for New England sports was unmatched. A long-standing season ticket holder for University of Massachusetts basketball, Ken was honored during the 2014 season and rarely missed an opportunity to see the minutemen in action.

Throughout his lifetime, Ken mentored hundreds of Pioneer Valley youth in baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming and scouting; and continued to tutor them in life lessons, years after his retirement from the playing field. A devoted father and grandfather, he did a lot for many, and asked little in return. He was very kind, generous, and an old soul.

Ken is survived by his wife Karen, two sons, Kraig of Leeds, and Kris of Boston, and grandsons Kevin and Alex. He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his friends, family and colleagues.

Services will be held Sunday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home in Northampton. A private burial will take place Monday, May 18, for family and close friends at Spring Street Cemetery.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Boy Scouts of America Western Massachusetts Council.
