Maurice Campbell Obituary

Maurice L. Campbell passed away at 91 on January 25, 2021 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Born in Eastampton on August 5, 1929, he was the son of Merrill and Claudia (Courtemanche) Campbell. Maurice was a lifelong resident of Easthampton and was a graduate of Smith Vocational High School in Northampton. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he received the Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars. He married Claire (Gagnon) on October 3, 1953 and was married for 67 years. He was the owner of Cottage Street Motors for 40 years. He was the cofounder and President of Community Homes for Children in Easthampton. He was a member of Dalton Lavalley American Legion Post 224, and a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish.

He leaves his wife Claire E. (Gagnon) Campbell, his sons Ronald and his caregiver Tom Joyce of Amherst, John and his wife Tracy of RI, Scott in Togo, West Africa, and Mark and his wife Catherine Campbell of RI, and his daughter Cheryl Campbell and her husband James Levine of Granby, MA. In addition, he leaves behind his sister, Doris (Campbell) Kovitch, of Easthampton, his five grandchildren Catherine Viel, Jeremy and Maya Levine, Sarah and Luke Campbell, and two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Cameron Veil as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Andre, Arthur, Gerard, Armand, Ralph, Eugene, and the Rev. Robert Campbell and his sister Simone Drapeau.

A private Funeral Mass for the immediate family will be held on January 30, 2021 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Easthampton. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date post-pandemic. Burial will be at St. Brigid's Cemetery. Boucher - O'Brien Funeral Home in Easthampton is in charge of the services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Relief Services or Catholic Charities.
