Phillip Edwards Obituary
Shutesbury, MA - Phillip A. Edwards, 84, a longtime resident of Shutesbury, MA, passed on August 2, 2023 to be with his heavenly Father and his beloved wife, Nancy A. (Elliot) Edwards, who passed away in 2018.
He was born on Nov. 13, 1938 in Rockingham, VT, the son of Arthur and Florence (Corey) Edwards.
A graduate of Northampton Commercial College and Western New England College, Phil was town treasurer in Shutesbury for 25 years. He was an accountant and comptroller, working for many years in colleges including Smith College and Hampshire College. He also worked as Fiscal Director at Franklin County Home Care in Turners Falls.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Phil was an avid hunter, fisherman and tennis player and enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family. He was a devoted member of Shutesbury Community Church, serving as church treasurer for many years. He also enjoyed studying the Bible and participating in prayer groups and private devotionals.
Phil was a loving father and "Papa" to all.
He was predeceased by a grandchild, Lindsey Weaver, who passed away in 2017.
He leaves a son, Michael Edwards and wife Elaine of Westfield; two daughters, Ellen Weaver of Bernardston and Rebecca Christian of Shutesbury; five grandchildren, Jeremy Bigelow, Shannon Brown, Curtis Weaver, Joanna Phillips and Alyssa Phillips; and several great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 26 at Shutesbury Community Church, 6 Town Common Road, Shutesbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shutesbury Community Church, PO Box 679, Shutesbury, MA 01007.
