Carl Doty, 94, died peacefully Friday evening at his Corvallis home.
He was born in Wagner, S.D., to Earl and Edith Doty. In 1934, he moved to Corvallis. Two years later, the rest of his family began moving to the area.
Carl served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during World War II and became a successful builder shortly thereafter. During the 1950s, he owned and managed the Benton Hotel and then went on to build and operate the Towne House Motor Inn. He continued to be active in construction and built homes, a nursing home and apartment complexes.
Carl was an avid bridge player. Another of his passions was ballroom dancing. He loved going on cruises with his wife, Angie. Over the years, his family enjoyed being entertained by tales of his travel adventures around the world.
He is survived by his wife, Angie; children Carol Youngkin of Salem, Wayne Doty of Gresham and Callista Dunn of Beaverton; step-children Kevin Valencia of Albany, Tom Valencia of Spokane, Wash., and Angela Valencia of Corvallis; sisters Lucile Johnston of Eugene and Charlotte Walker of Monmouth; uncles Merle Doty of Corvallis and Arnold Doty of West Lake Village, Calif.; grandchildren Angela McCanna of Salem, Troy Doty of Tigard, Krin Hunt of Eugene, Mya Dunn of Beaverton, Trevor Doty of Maui, Hawaii, Brian Dunn of Beaverton; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at McHenry Funeral Home.
