Cathleen "Kit" Laam

1952 - 2025

Cathleen "Kit" (Kelly) Laam, born June 7, 1952, in Portland, Oregon, passed away August 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Kit attended the University of Oregon and Oregon State University, where she pursued her studies in design and graduated with a degree in Interior Architecture. Gifted with extraordinary creativity and vision, she found great joy and excelled in her profession. Her work enriched many homes and businesses, each reflecting her unique artistry and talent.

Beyond her professional success, Kit's heart was always with her family and friends. She cherished time spent with them and will be remembered for her ability to bring an upbeat perspective to the table. She is survived by her husband, Steve, her son, Ben, and seven grandchildren, who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Kit also lived her dreams through her love of horses. Training, riding, and especially trail riding brought her peace and happiness. These moments were among her most treasured. In her horse tack room hangs a sign engraved with the words, "Ride like the Wind," a sentiment that perfectly reflected her spirit. Any conversation with her quickly or eventually involved a horse. She has asked that her ashes be scattered over the grave of one of her favorite horses.

Another sign at the entrance of her home reads:

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out and proclaiming: Wow, What a Ride!"

Kit lived just such a life - full, vibrant, and deeply meaningful. Hers was truly a life well lived, and she will be dearly missed.
