DeAnne Palmer Sumpter

June 2, 1940 - October 5, 2025

DeAnne Palmer Sumpter passed away October 5th due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

DeAnne was born June 2, 1940, at the home of her parents, Irving and Barbara Palmer in Cottage Grove, OR. She was welcomed by her sister, Marilyn. The family later settled in the Stayton area, where DeAnne attended school and graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School. After high school, DeAnne went to Marylhurst College, where she earned her teaching degree. Her love of learning and teaching led her to take over 80 more classes with a large focus on reading.

DeAnne met her husband, Raymond Sumpter while teaching in California. They married in July 1971 and lived in southern California until moving to Oregon to be closer to her family. They remained devoted to each other until his death in 2007.

DeAnne loved teaching. In Oregon, she taught at St. Mary Catholic School and Lourdes Public Charter School. She retired in 2008 after more than 40 years of teaching.

DeAnne was known for her kind and generous heart as well as her love for animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Barbara Palmer; her sister, Marilyn Gries; and her beloved husband, Raymond Sumpter. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Services at Our Lady of Lourdes in Jordan will take place on Monday, October 13, Rosary at 10:15 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m.
