Dorcas Boshart, 86, of Albany went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 18. She was born March 7, 1921, in Didsbury, Alberta, Canada, to Noah and Mary Reist Dett-wiler. When she was a young girl, her father moved the family to Limon, Colo., where she attended school.
She married Elmer Boshart in May 1942. After he was finished with Civilian Public Service, they settled in the community of Cheraw, Colo., where they farmed for many years and where she was a long-time member of East Holbrook Mennonite Church. She also spent many years working in the laundry at the Mennonite Hospital in La Junta, Colo. In the late 1960s, Elmer and Dorcas sold their farm and moved to La Junta, where they attended the First Mennonite Church.
In 1982, Dorcas and Elmer moved to Oregon to be near their daughter and in 1989 they moved into the Mennonite Village, where Dorcas resided until her death.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Mennonite Church in Adair Village and attended regularly until her health began to fail. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by daughter Ferne Lorain and son-in-law Dennis of Albany; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers Mahlon Dettwiler of Myerstown, Pa., and Elmer Dett-wiler of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sister Laura Conway of Fort Morgan, Colo.
Dorcas was preceded in death by three sons, Dwight and Ted, who both died in infancy, and Kenneth, who passed away in 1996; her husband, Elmer, who died in 1999; sisters Ruth Buschert, Edna Mellinger and Alice Zellers; and brother Paul Dett-wiler.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at McHenry Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at McHenry Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oakville Cemetery.
