Gary Jarman Obituary

July 11, 1936 - Sept. 1, 2016

Gary D. Jarman died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, in Corvallis. He was 80.

He was born at Baker to Ardell and Dorothy (Davis) Jarman, and was proud to be a third-generation Oregonian.

His family moved to Portland during World War II while his father worked in the shipyards, then moved to Dallas, where he graduated from Dallas High School in 1954.

He earned a bachelor's degree in geology in 1959 from Oregon State College (now OSU), and a master's degree in geology in 1962 from Oregon State University.

For 35 years he worked as a scientific instrument technician at Oregon State University in Soil Science, Atmospheric Sciences, and the Computer Center.

His interests included photography, travel, carpentry and computers.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Clara (Birchak) Jarman of Corvallis, son David L. Jarman and wife Toby, and grandchildren Zachary and Sylvia, all of Seattle, Washington.

There will be no public memorial service. Contributions in his memory may be made to the OSU Foundation, sent in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330.
