Nathaniel Curteman Obituary

April 17, 1988 - Dec. 15, 2015

Nathaniel "Nate" Preston Curteman died Dec. 15, 2015, in Santa Barbara, California.

He was born April 17, 1988, in Albany. Nate attended Albany Christian School and was a 2006 graduate of West Albany High School. He excelled in water polo and swimming and it was in his high school foods class that he developed a passion for cooking.

Nate attended Oregon Culinary Institute in Portland and held many positions in the food service industry. One of his proudest accomplishments came in 2014 when he helped to open The Black Sheep restaurant in Santa Barbara. He had a strong work ethic and was instrumental in developing cutting-edge ideas in his work.

Nate had a quick smile, a wacky sense of humor, and a zest for life and adventure that drew people to him.

Nate was preceded in death by his grandfather, Blaine Bennett Sr.; aunt Paula Bennett; uncle Larry Green; and cousin Kevin Bennett.

He is survived by his father, Richard "Eric" (Tina) Curteman of Albany; mother Pamela (Jeff) Storie of Lompoc, California; sister Adrianna Curteman; stepsister Taylor Arthur; grandparents Robert and Marilyn Curteman and Pauline Bennett; girlfriend Kendall Dubroff; and many, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Willamette Community Church, 420 Third Ave. S.E., in Albany.
