Sarah Allen Obituary

Sarah Elizabeth Allen

February 22, 1969 - August 8, 2025

Sarah Elizabeth Allen, 56 years old, of Albany, OR, passed away at her family home in North Albany surrounded by her loving family following a 14-month battle with esophageal & bone cancer.

Sarah was the daughter of Jerry and Barbara LaFountain and was born in Grants Pass, OR.

Of Sarah's many life achievements, she was most proud of having raised 3 beautiful children with her husband, Michael Allen. Sarah and Michael met in the U.S. Navy while serving in Misawa, Japan as Cryptologic Technicians in a multi-service command providing support to the U.S National Security Agency and other intelligence consumers. Sarah was one of the very first Navy women at sea having deployed on the USS Independence on a direct support mission where she earned the highly coveted Navy Achievement Medal (NAM) for her role in protecting the battle group from enemy surveillance and air space intrusion. Sarah was very proud of her military service, highly regarded in the intelligence community, and was an exemplary sailor overall.

After the Navy, Sarah went on to work as a self-employed Real Estate Agent, a coffee shop owner at Rhythm & Blues Café in Albany, and a contract bookkeeper for construction firms in the area. Sarah and Michael were members of Brownsville Christian Church and later North Albany Community Church. Sarah was a devout Christian and always endeavored to live her life to model the teachings of her savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved with all her heart. This love and her immense love of family is the legacy for which she will always be remembered. She was a prayer warrior and who started every day by texting her children, "Good Morning, I love you" without fail. We continue to do so in her honor.

Sarah is survived by her husband, Michael "Mike" Allen; her oldest daughter, Regan Orsborn; her son-in-law, Nicholas Orsborn; her grandson, Wilmer Nicholas Orsborn; her only son, Hayden Wilson Allen (spouse Anna Burton); her youngest daughter, Marjorie Grace Allen; her parents, Jerry LaFountain & Barbara Zellner; her brothers, Maurice Andrew LaFountain (wife Jennifer) & Caleb Michael LaFountain (wife Trisha), her many nieces and nephews she loved dearly; Maurice's children, Renee LaFountain (fiance' Tony), Tiffany LaFountain, Andrew LaFountain (wife Allison), and Caleb's children, Hudson & Violet LaFountain.

Sarah was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William & Marjorie Smith formerly of Grants Pass, OR and her paternal grandparents, Maurice and Margaret LaFountain, formerly of Claremont, NH.

A Celebration of Life will be held at North Albany Community Church on September 12th, 2025, at 1 p.m. Flowers can be sent to the church at 1273 NW West Thornton Lake Drive, Albany OR 97321 starting September 8th from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Earlier today

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Sarah's passing. I was her watch section supervisor in Misawa 36 years ago, and during all these years since if the subject ever came up, I always named Sarah as the best operator I ever saw during my Navy career. If we had a challenging position to man, I always asked Sarah to do it...she was an incredibly fast and accurate operator. Off duty, she was one of the nicest people at NSGA Misawa.
My sympathies are with her family and friends; please know that her memory will live on with her shipmates.
