Steven France Obituary

Steven M France

October 21, 1947 - May 28, 2025

Steven M. France, from Lebanon, Oregon and later Dorris, California passed away on May 28, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on October 21, 1947, in Eugene, Oregon to Marjorie E. and Charles H. France.

Steve spent his early years in Arkansas and in Sweet Home, Oregon where he developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors, self-reliance, and hard work. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Steve followed his grandfather Lee Thornton and his oldest brother, Charles D. France, into the Navy.

Steve's time in the military was a defining part of his identity, and he carried that sense of duty and honor throughout his life.

On May 12, 1969, Steve married Diane Perkins and they settled in Lebanon, Oregon, where they raised their family. They shared a long marriage of 56 years.

Steve was the proud father of two children: Steven "C.J." France, married to Macey Kirk of Lebanon, and Ashley McKay, married to John McKay of Klamath Falls, Oregon. He deeply loved his five grandchildren: Kolby and Kolton France of Lebanon, Gavin, Kayla, and Brayden McKay of Klamath Falls, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Steve will be remembered for his tenacity, humor, and kindness. He showed up for his family, his friends, his community, and people he met along the way. Steve never met a stranger; always eager to jump right in and help anyone who might be in need.

Steve was an avid beekeeper and gardener. He also enjoyed working on home and yard projects: always busy, always building. His steady strength left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Steve was preceded in death by: his parents, his middle brother Greg France, and his grandparents Lee and E. Byrdie Thornton, and his brothers-in-law Tom and Terry Perkins.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and his oldest brother and sister-in-law Charles D. and Marilyn France of Pensacola, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

A private burial at sea is planned for later in the summer. A celebration of life will occur on Sunday, July 6 at 1 p.m. at Ralston Park in Lebanon.
