April 5, 1926 - Sept. 21, 2010
William Edward Trampier of Philomath died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born April 5, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., to Charles R. Sr. and Lillian Trampier (nee Smith). He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Claire; daughter, Kathleen Schalk (Dave); son Craig and daughter-in-law Rebecca Swiff; son David (Nina); and brother, Charles R. (Ray) Jr. (Betty).
Bill, too young for standard service, volunteered for the Merchant Marines in World War II, serving in the Pacific. During his life, he worked in many fields: as a lab tech (National Lead), sales representative, plant manager (Morningstar/Paisley Products/Standard Brands), building superintendent (St. Louis Art Museum), self-employed general contractor and painter; and manager of
a livestock ranch in
Tennessee.
His many hobbies included fishing, art and drawing (ink, charcoal, oils, acrylics, watercolors, pencil), micro-farming, handyman, auto mechanic, bird-watching, and doing crossword puzzles. When younger, he played the harmonica, and had a great love for 12-string guitar and harp music. Bill was an avid reader and a philosopher, with an appreciation for wry humor and silly puns.
A memorial service to celebrate the man and his life will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26. Please call Craig at 541-740-9416 for directions.
