Janesville, WI - Connie Mae Haynes, age 78, of Janesville, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Bay at Belmont Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madison after a long and arduous battle with early-onset Dementia. Connie bore a lot but thanks to her sisters (Katie & Patty), brother-in-law (John), sister-and brother-in-law (Tammy and Dan), nephew (Ben), niece and nephew-in-law (Jennifer and Tracy), great-nephew (Dan), daughter and son-in-law (Angela and Paul), granddaughters (Leigh and Maya), and some caring and compassionate Caregivers (too many to name) she had a lot of love and support.
Connie was born in Janesville, WI on September 24, 1944: second daughter of Charles and Margaret (Crompton) Manz. Connie grew up mostly in the country and told stories of cranky geese, but also of a lovable Cocker Spaniel named Rags that spurred her great, lifelong love of all animals. Connie also would share stories of her sisters, Katie, Patty, and Nancy, and listening to Elvis and other popular singers of the late 50s and 60s. Connie graduated from Tomah High School in the class of 1963. After graduation Connie worked on an assembly line at a television manufacturing factory. She also lived with her grandparents, Arley and Burt Crompton, until she married Robert (Bob) Haynes in July 1966.
Connie and Bob had two daughters by September 1969, Angela and Heidi, and then a beloved dog, Lassie in the early 70s. Connie and Bob dedicated their time and love to their daughters. All four of them loved to be outdoors playing badminton or swimming in the family pool or traveling in a variety of campers around Wisconsin, Upper Michigan with Bob's family, or Southwest United States.
Besides being a wonderful mom, Connie was also an artist. She loved to draw and paint. She took up photography too and became a beautiful family, nature, and landscape photographer! Family photography was something she especially enjoyed, so when her niece, Tammy Haynes Sauk, or nephew, Chuck Rudolph, came for extended summer visits, lots of poses were endured by all the kids and Lassie! Later, after Heidi's son, Davey, was born, he became her favorite photography subject:)
Connie later worked as a Home Health Nurses Aide giving her an outlet for her caregiving spirit after Heidi and Davey moved to their own place. Connie learned a lot about meditation and spiritualism, leading her to pursue a new single life, even though her love for Bob remained. Her sisters and cousin (Janet Kettle) and her spirituality sustained her after the loss of Heidi and Davey in 1997.
Connie struggled with anxiety and depression but kept up a good life as best she could with help from her sisters and their families and daughter and her family. She continued to garden and color beautifully detailed pieces in many very special coloring books from her family. Even when her health was declining and she had hand tremors she could still color perfectly! It was heartbreaking when dementia took that ability away from her:(
Connie wasn't able to communicate very much in her last year but Angela always knew though that she was staying strong for her. We had lost another dear family member to neurological disease (Katie's husband, Dick Wintlend), so Angela hopes you will consider sending donations to The Michael J. Fox's Foundation for Parkinson's Research (
https://www.michaeljfox.org) or your local Animal Humane Society in Connie's honor.
Connie leaves her daughter, Angela (Paul) Preimesberger; granddaughters, Leigh and Maya Preimesberger; sisters, Katherine "Katie" Wintlend and Patricia "Patty" (John) Drescher; niece, Jennifer (Tracy) Timmel; nephew, John (Joy Clay) Drescher; sister-in-law, Tammy Haynes (Dan) Sauk; nephew, Benjamin (Kayla) Haynes; ex-husband, Robert Haynes, and other dear family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Heidi Haynes; grandson, David Christopher (Boyer) Haynes; sister, Nancy Blaisdel; brother-in-law, Richard Wintlend, nephew, Charles Rudolph; and great-nephew Daniel Timmel.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville, WI from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be given in Connie's memory to:
